The Recovery Church (Central Park United Methodist Church) is a Christian and reconciling community that is open to diverse concepts of spirituality accepting all who share a belief in the Christian values of trust, compassion, openness and service. The Recovery Church is neither a typical church nor a twelve-step program. Although we draw from both traditions, we seek to embody the spirit of God without creating boundaries for its expression.

The Recovery Church is located in St. Paul, Minnesota, is an easy and quick commute from Highways 94 and 35 and two blocks from a public transportation stop.

Dear Recovery Church Family,

We’ve made it through another week without in-person worship or hugs and the spirit is still alive and kicking!  Last night a small number of us gathered (at a proper distance) to record our Palm Sunday worship service. You are invited to join the entire community and watch it this Sunday at 9:30. You will find it on the website www.therecoverychurch.org. A huge THANK YOU to all who worked on this; especially Tommy, Sunny, Charlie, Bob, Deb, Linda, Brooklyn, Ned, Terry and Susanne T.

We have been asked to curtail in-person worship through May 10th. In the meantime, we hope to share worship each week as well as keeping in touch via email, Facebook, website, and phone calls. Please don’t hesitate to be in touch. Thanks to all of you who continue to send donations and encouraging words to the church. You give us hope.

In case you have forgotten how much you are loved, let me end with some words from Henri Nouwen. This is a paraphrase of a few of my favorite Bible verses—Isaiah 43 and Psalm 139–which I recommend to you as well.

"You are my child.
You are written in the palms of my hand.
You are hidden in the shadow of my hand.

I molded you in the secret of the earth.
I have knitted you together in your mother’s womb.
You belong to me.
I am yours. You are mine.
I have called you from eternity and you are the one who is held safe and embraced in love from eternity to eternity.
You belong to me. And I am holding you safe and I want you to know that whatever happens to you, I am always there. I was always there; I am always there; I always will be there and hold you in my embrace.
You are mine. You are my child. You belong to my home. You belong to my intimate life and I will never let you go. I will be faithful to you.”

- Henri J.M.Nouwen, “Lecture”

Or as our friend Roger W. always says, “Remember, God loves you and so do I.”

Please remember these words and remember we miss you. We can’t wait to welcome you back with open arms.

Love,
Pastor Martha

2020 Gopher State Roundup Canceled

4/3/2020

It is with sadness that we announce the cancellation of the May 22-24,2020 Gopher State Roundup.

The Gopher State Roundup holds a special place in the hearts of AA, Al-Anon, Alateen members and their friends & families.  Each year, many of us look to the Gopher State Roundup to refresh our thoughts, renew our hearts, and prepare us for the spring and summer ahead. Gopher State is a boost to our sobriety that draws us to a happy time with friends and family.  It reminds us of where we have been, encourages us to grow, and leaves us inspired to do more.
With the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, we cannot see a safe way to hold Gopher State XLVII on May 22-24, 2020. The Board is committed to holding Gopher State XLVII, however; it is not clear when that will be. We are actively looking at other alternatives and will provide updates as solutions become clear.

Please keep safe and stay sober.

In Service,
Gopher State Roundup Board of Directors

This article addresses:
1. Sunday services
2. Recovery meetings

SUNDAY SERVICES
Bishop Bruce R. Ough is asking congregations to suspend in-person worship until at least May 10th in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and related health agency and governmental guidelines. He points out that regardless of what is happening in our world on April 12, Easter cannot be canceled. “We may not be able to gather in our glorious Easter celebrations in our lily-decorated sanctuaries, but Easter cannot be canceled,” he said. “The resurrection cannot be stopped or delayed or defeated!”

RECOVERY MEETINGS
The Recovery Church building will be available and open to all weekly group meetings held in this space. It will be up to the individual leaders of each group to determine whether the group will meet or not. Please bring disinfectant wipes and wipe down spaces after use.

As always, we are in this together. We seek to be part of the solution and part of the healing.
Please call, text, write and support one another at this time. Find new ways to reach out in love. If you need to talk to someone one-on-one, volunteers are available.

Last-Friday's Sing-a-long

So,  what does it look like to incorporate "Social Distancing" into a recording session that is intended to extend the love of music to TRC members who cannot currently gather as community?
At some personal risk, a few of us gathered today to record music to share with the community we love, who cannot be together.

We share these images (songs coming) in hopes that people will seek out the recordings in order to receive the love of our community and God in a special way.  Just a thought.

Be safe and take care!!!
